What to do with scallops

Tips and cooking ideas that will inspire you to cook and eat scallops.

These little creamy nuggets are a real treat, and they're good for us, too. (see Why we like: Shellfish for more information.)  Here are our five favourite ways to use scallops:

  • Pan-fry simply and quickly (they only need a minute or two) and finish with a squeeze of lemon; serve with wilted spinach and black pepper.

  • Add seared scallops to freshly cooked pasta with a simple tomato sauce.

  • Top mashed potato cakes or hash with salad greens, seared scallops and a dash of balsamic vinegar.

  • Wrap scallops in strips of bacon and thread onto skewers, and cook quickly on the barbecue.

  • Get hold of some scallop shells and roast scallops in the oven with a coating of breadcrumbs, olive oil, parsley, lemon and chilli.
