Plastic bag charge up for vote

Do you care enough about the environment to put your money where your mouth is?

Supermarket chain New World is calling for customers to vote on whether to bring in a five or 10 cent charge for plastic bags.

If the majority are in favour of a plastic bag charge, the money will be donated to Sea Cleaners, a charitable trust that works to remove rubbish from NZ’s waterways.

People who use their own bags currently receive a five per cent rebate at North Island stores.

Customers can vote at www.bagvote.co.nz until midnight 8 October.
