Councils vote no to sugary drinks policy
The New Zealand Dental Association has expressed its disappointment after Manawatu and Rangitikei councils voted against developing a Sugar Sweetened Beverages Policy.
Local Government New Zealand decided in July to urge councils nationwide to introduce their own policy aiming to reduce sugar consumption in users of council-run workplaces and facilities.
Separately, a policy brief by the New Zealand Beverage Guidance Panel recommending a tax on sugary drinks is currently before Parliament.
