Could omega-6 protect you against premature death?

The answer is yes, according to a new University of Eastern Finland (UEF) study, and omega-6 fatty acids may also keep cardiovascular disease at bay.

Results from the UEF Kuopio Ischaemic Heart Disease Risk Factor Study, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, show risk of premature death was 43 per cent lower in the group with the highest linoleic acid level, when compared with the group with the lowest level of the common omega-6 fatty acid.

The main sources of linoleic acid are vegetable oils, plant-based spreads, nuts and seeds.
