Bliss balls are increasing in popularity and there are lots of different types. But how do they stack up against a more traditional sweet treat?
Griffin’s Gingernuts
Three biscuits: 675kJ, 1.9g protein, 3.9g fat, 2.1g sat fat, 29.6g carbs, 15.4g sugars, 0.7g fibre, 37.5g $0.45
vs
Tasti Orange Zinger Smooshed Balls
Three balls: 577kJ, 3g protein, 5.7g fat, 1.7g sat fat, 18.8g carbs, 13.3g sugars, 3g fibre, 34.5g $1.25
The balls win. They have more fibre and a little more protein, which means they’ll be more filling. They have fewer kilojoules, a little less saturated fat and they’re a little lower in sugars.
But the balls are also a lot more expensive.
Remember that both are a sweet treat, and be wary of overconsumption. Just because something is healthier doesn’t necessarily mean we can go to town. Dried fruit is a concentrated source of sugars, even though it brings small amounts of other nutrients with it.
Tip: Other bliss balls with fruit or nuts in them may not match the nutrition of these Tasti ones. Some may be high in energy and saturated fat, so always check the labels.
