Kids in the kitchen: Mother’s Day

Check out these easy, delicious ideas for treating your fantastic Mum on Mother’s Day, kids!

What you need

1 bagel, 2 teaspoons cream cheese, 2 lettuce leaves, 4 slices smoked salmon

What to do

  • Cut the bagel into two ring-shaped halves. Toast.
  • Spread 1 heaped teaspoon cream cheese on each bagel half.
  • Add a lettuce leaf. Add half the salmon.
  • Decorate the plate with a washed spring onion (sliced) or 5 capers (if Mum likes these).

What you need

Frozen blueberries, 1 orange, 1 small banana, 1 tin pineapple crushed in juice, pottle of yoghurt

What to do

  • Place 2 tablespoons frozen blueberries in a soup bowl (large enough for the whole salad) and leave to defrost.
  • Meanwhile, peel orange and break it into pieces. Add to defrosted blueberries.
  • Peel and carefully slice banana. Add to fruit bowl.
  • Add 1 tablespoon tinned crushed pineapple in juice.
  • Top fruits with 3 tablespoons of yoghurt (use Mum’s favourite flavour).
  • Decorate with a few fresh mint leaves.

What you need

1 egg, 3 tablespoons milk, 1 teaspoon vanilla essence, 2 slices toast-thickness bread, 2 teaspoons honey, 1 glass orange juice

What to do

  • Break egg into a bowl, add milk and vanilla. Mix.
  • Soak each piece of bread in the mixture.
  • Microwave the toast on medium for about 1 minute (until the egg cooks).
  • Spread honey on each toast.
  • Serve with the glass of orange juice.

Mum will love this Divine apple and spice porridge recipe. But let Dad handle the hot apple preparation, or use tinned fruit instead.

Citrus  fruit-filled pancakes is a good recipe to try if you’re experienced in the kitchen, or again you can ask Dad (or an older brother or sister) to give you a hand.
