Fresh juicy fruits and herbs are a splash hit in these virtually kilojoule-free drinks. Here’s to the long hot days of summer!

Keep the family well hydrated on hot days with these fantastic fruit infusions. They taste as good as they look, and best of all, they’re free of the hidden sugar and kilojoules that soft drinks and cordials carry. Just fill a jug with about 1 litre of chilled flat or sparkling water and stir in your combo of choice with plenty of ice. Pop the jug in the fridge and instant refreshment is yours!

With just a few basic ingredients (and some water!), you can whip up these five sensational summer infusions.

Shopping list

1 lime
1 lemon
1 orange
fresh ginger
frozen raspberries
mint leaves
1 red apple
1 green apple
1 cinnamon stick
blueberries
canned lychees

1. Citrus mix

1/2 lime, sliced
1/2 lemon, sliced, halved
1 small orange, sliced, halved

2. Lemon and ginger

1/2 lemon, sliced
1cm piece fresh ginger, peeled, thinly sliced

3. Raspberry and mint

1/4 cup frozen raspberries
12 mint leaves

4. Apple and cinnamon

1/2 red apple, thinly sliced
1/2 green apple, thinly sliced
1 cinnamon stick

5. Blueberry and lychee

1/4 cup blueberries
5 canned lychees, drained
