There are three stages to the low-FODMAP diet: elimination, food challenges and food reintroduction. Starting the low-FODMAP diet, identifying your food triggers and then reintroducing safe foods takes around 12 weeks.

The low-FODMAP diet is not a diet for life. The aim is to get back to a healthy, balanced Mediterranean-style diet, which has been shown to be good for all aspects of health including healthy gut bacteria.
