A workplace exercise programme can potentially improve the health and productivity of employees who are at high risk of heart disease and diabetes, according to German research. During this study, 314 participants with metabolic syndrome were given a fitness tracker and exercise, nutrition and stress management advice in person as well as through a smartphone app.
After six months, four of the risk factors for metabolic syndrome, high levels of abdominal fat, blood pressure, blood sugars and circulating triglycerides, had significantly improved compared with the control group. The study was small, so further investigation is needed.
