Homemade pizza base

Make your own pizza at home with this easy pizza base recipe.

  • Time to make: 30 mins, plus rising
  • Serving: (makes 1 large base, about 35cm diameter)

  • 2 cups plain flour
    • 2 teaspoons sugar
    • ½ teaspoon salt
    • 1 teaspoon dried yeast
    • 1 tablespoon olive oil
    • 1 cup (250ml) warm water, to mix

    1 Place flour, sugar, salt, yeast and oil in bowl; mix well. Add warm water and mix to a soft dough. Turn on to a floured board or bench and knead for 5-10 minutes until dough is smooth and elastic (it should spring back when dented with a finger). Add more flour when kneading if necessary. Place in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with plastic wrap and leave to rise in a warm place until double in size.

    2 Punch down, return dough to floured board and knead again for about 5 minutes.

    3 Roll dough into a large circle or rectangle; transfer to an oiled pizza tin or baking tray. Use as instructed in pizza recipe.
