The Corn Thins® Story

Corn Thins® products are made by Real Foods, an Australian company started by Michael Pels in 1980, a business he still runs today from the Villawood, NSW production site.

Before Corn Thins® corn cakes came about in 1996, there were only thick rice cakes in the market, with Real Foods being a primary co-manufacturer of these. Thick rice cakes are certainly a healthy food option, but not very tasty. So Michael took a standard rice cake machine, played around with it & redesigned it so it could produce a thin product made from popped grains of corn – corn cakes, which Michael branded Corn Thins®.

Unlike tasteless rice cakes, popped corn cakes taste like popcorn in a crispbread, so Corn Thins® has become a favourite healthy, great tasting Crispbread, selling millions of packs a year in Australia and around the world. Not only do they taste like popcorn, but the entire range is gluten free and non-GMO, and all products are made from grains, rather than flour, so are a healthier choice. Corn Thins® corn cakes great popcorn taste means that not only are the delicious to eat by themselves, or with your favourite topping, but they can be used in recipes, particularly when looking for something gluten free.

Corn Thins® Crispbreads have been a favourite in households for almost 30 years, so people have been asking for a mini version of Corn Thins® slices for years. From this we knew that people were looking to enjoy our products on-the-go and in a format that’s easy to snack on, share, and put into lunchboxes.

It took us a while, but we have finally launched a healthier savoury snack – Corn Thins® Minis, made from popped grains of corn, so taste like popcorn in a cracker. Smaller bite sized snacks which are crisp and crunchy, perfect to eat on their own, on the go, or with dips when entertaining. Corn Thins® Minis are currently sold in Woolworths biscuit aisle in 2 flavours – Cheddar Cheese, and Sour Cream & Chives. We will be launching many more flavours, so look out for these in store.
