Not all milk is the same!
What is a2 Milk®?
a2 Milk ® is naturally A1 protein free milk, which may be easier on digestion for some people.*
Most ordinary cows’ milk in grocery stores contains a combination of the A1 and A2 beta-casein proteins. Some people may experience digestive issues when drinking ordinary milk containing the A1 protein.
a2 Milk ® comes from cows that are specially selected to naturally produce only A2 type protein – and no A1. This is based purely on the cows’ genetics – like having brown vs blue eyes.
a2 Milk® has a range of milk from light, full cream, lactose free and UHT so you can choose what’s best suited for you and your family. Why not try a2 Milk® today? Feel the difference®
Why is a2 Milk® special?
Some people who experience digestive issues from ordinary milk may be able to enjoy a2 Milk®. From cow to cup, we are committed to ensuring that our a2 Milk® is high quality and great tasting for you and your family to enjoy.
So what is the difference between a2 Milk® and ordinary milk?
Ordinary cows’ milk contains both A1 and A2 types of beta-casein. Beta-casein is one of the major proteins in milk.
The difference between A1 and A2 proteins comes down to 1 of their 209 amino acids – and because of this single amino acid, the A1 and A2 proteins are digested differently.
The structure of the A2 protein limits the release of BCM-7, whereas the digestion of A1 beta casein protein releases BCM-7. BCM-7 binds to opioid receptors throughout the body, and in the gut, which may cause digestive issues for some people, such as:
• Abdominal pain
• Bloating
• Diarrhoea
• Constipation
So for those who experience digestive discomfort from the A1 protein in ordinary milk, a2 Milk® may be a suitable alternative.
Is the A1 protein the same as lactose?
No, both can be found in milk, but the A1 beta-casein is a protein, while lactose is a sugar (carbohydrate).
Studies have shown that some people who are lactose maldigesters (including some with clinically diagnosed lactose intolerance) may experience fewer symptoms of digestive discomfort after drinking a2 Milk®, compared to drinking ordinary cows’ milk.
We offer a2 Milk® Lactose Free for the delicious taste of a2 Milk® without the A1 protein, or lactose. Look out for the red lid that marks our lactose free range!
