Hold the bacon

In what could be good news for pigs (but less so for bacon fans), a major study has found that people who eat even moderate amounts of processed and red meat are still at increased risk of bowel cancer. Every bottle of beer or glass of wine also increases your risk.

The good news is that eating a lot of fibre from bread or cereal can lower it. “Think less beer and bacon, more bran and brown bread,” says lead study author Kathryn Bradbury.
