
Antibiotic use has been linked to heightened bowel cancer risk but lower rectal cancer risk, which suggests differences in microbiome activity along the length of the bowel.
This depends, to some extent, on the type and class of drug prescribed, suggests research published online in the journal Gut. The researchers say this highlights the importance of judicious prescribing of antibiotics.
