Recent research from the University of Otago shows promise for treating children with functional bowel disorders. The study involved a clinical review of 29 children and young people from Christchurch Public Hospital, aged between four and 17 years, who were following the low-FODMAP diet under the guidance of specialists. Complete resolution of gastrointestinal symptoms was observed in 92 per cent of those with bloating, 87 per cent of those with diarrhoea and 77 per cent of those with abdominal pain.
