Step away from the vehicle

People who walk or cycle to work are less likely to develop or die from heart disease and stroke than those exclusively using the car, according to new research.

The more active ways of commuting can cut relative risk of developing ischaemic heart disease or stroke by 11 per cent and the relative risk of dying from these by 30 per cent, UK researchers say.

The study adds to the evidence in favour of more active forms of commuting, even for part of the journey.
