This chickpea dip is a versatile ingredient and much more than just a party snack favourite.
1. Hummus and vege pasta
Stir hummus through pasta with spinach, roasted red onion, roasted cherry tomatoes and toasted walnuts. Top with fresh basil and parmesan cheese.
2. Olive and tomato pinwheels
Make tasty pinwheel nibbles by spreading hummus on a square wrap or flatbread. Add sliced olives and sun-dried tomatoes. Roll in a cylinder shape then slice into small pinwheels.
3. Gourmet burgers
For added flavour and texture, smear a tablespoon of hummus on the bottom hamburger bun before adding the patty, chutney, cheese and salad.
4. Roasted carrot or beetroot dip
Roast chopped beetroot or carrots with oil spray. When tender, remove from oven and blend with plain hummus to make a delicious gourmet dip. Or try pea hummus, see our recipe: Lamb steak with pea hummus.
5. Creamy hummus and sesame dressing
Make a creamy dressing for hot vegetables such as beans or broccoli by blending a pot of hummus with lemon juice, a little low-fat plain yoghurt and a dash of sesame oil. Season to taste and add chilli flakes if preferred.
6. Vege and feta tartlets
Make bread cases by baking sliced bread in the oven in muffin tray holes until golden. Fill each case with a dollop of hummus, some roasted tomatoes and roasted capsicums. Top with crumbled feta cheese.
7. Herby hummus mash
lend a flavoured hummus with extra fresh herbs (we like basil and parsley) and a can of cannellini beans to make a tasty bean mash to serve with barbecued meat.
8. Hummus croutons
Add some crunch to your next salad. Spread toasted sliced bread with hummus then cut into small cubes and scatter over salad.
9. Butter replacement
Use hummus as a spread instead of butter on rolls and sandwiches. Garlic hummus is nice with salad and cheese, and red capsicum hummus is delicious with meat and chutney.
10. Non-tomato pizza
Spread hummus on pizza bases instead of tomato paste before adding your favourite veges, meat and cheese topping.
