Make Mother’s day

New Zealanders celebrate Mother’s Day on the second Sunday of May. On Mother’s Day, we show our mum how thankful we are for all the things she continues to do for us.

Mum does things for us because she loves us unconditionally and she cares for our health and well-being. Showing Mum that we appreciate all she does for us, and showing her that we love her, too, is something we can do every day, and something we make a point of doing on Mother’s Day.

Often, because mums are always busy, the simplest gift we can give Mum is an act of service. Mums tend to do lots of things around the house, such as preparing meals, that if you do just one task she normally does, this act of service can make Mum’s day.

Make Mum breakfast in bed

A bowl of cereal, a wee jug of trim milk, some chopped up fruit and a piece of toast with her favourite topping will be a great start to Mother’s Day. Or make it extra-special with these citrus fruit-filled pancakes.

Give Mum some time out during the day

So she can put her feet up and enjoy her favourite book, with a cup of tea and a homemade Rich fruit truffle. These are easy to make – just blend ingredients, shape into balls and roll in coconut.

Serve Mum afternoon tea

Make Healthy Food Guide‘s Honey and soda scones which use only four ingredients. Ask Dad or brothers and sisters to help, and take photos of you cooking to add to your Mother’s Day card.
