This twist on an old favourite is fun to make and guarantees a crispy crust, every time.
Makes 1 base (serves 4)
Time to make 1 hour
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- pinch salt
- 8g sachet instant dry yeast
- 1/3 cup lukewarm water
You’ll also need
- 28cm x 40cm baking dish
- large board or baking dish for serving pizza
Here’s how it’s done!
Step 1 Heat oven to 200°C. Place flour, salt and yeast in a large bowl. Make a well in the centre. Use a palette knife or wooden spoon to mix in just enough lukewarm water to bind mixture.
Step 2 Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface. Knead for 5 minutes to form a smooth (not sticky) ball. Use a little extra flour if you need to. Spray a bowl and plastic wrap with a little oil. Place dough in bowl and cover with wrap. Set aside in a warm, draught-free place to prove (rise) for about 30 minutes. Dough should double in size.
Step 3 While dough is proving, prepare pizza toppings (see below for recipe ideas). Line a large baking dish with baking paper. Place veges in the dish. Spray with oil. Place in the oven for 10 minutes. Prepare other toppings ready for putting on pizza.
Step 4 Once dough is proved, turn out on a lightly floured surface. Knead until smooth. Roll out dough to make a large rectangle, big enough to cover your baking dish.
Step 5 Carefully place pizza dough over the top of the fillings in the dish. Press down gently to cover. Spray with oil and bake in the oven for a further 15 minutes, until pizza crust is golden and crisp.
Step 6 Remove from the oven and carefully invert onto a board. Peel off baking paper. Add other toppings to pizza, according to your recipe, and serve.
