Kids’ mac ‘n’ cheese

This tasty macaroni cheese recipe is easy enough for the kid to make. It's healthier than traditional mac 'n' cheese and is high in calcium, protein and fibre.

  • 2 cups warm white sauce
  • 1 cup reduced-fat cheddar (such as Noble)
  • 4 cups cooked macaroni
  • 2 cups frozen mixed veges, cooked
  • ½ cup panko crumbs

    1 Preheat oven to 180°C.

    2 Into a saucepan of warm white sauce, add ¾ of the cheese and stir through until melted and combined.

    3 In a baking dish, place cooked macaroni and vegetables. Pour cheesy white sauce over the top. In a bowl, combine panko crumbs and remaining cheese. Sprinkle over pasta and sauce and bake for 15 minutes, until bubbling and topping is golden. You may need to finish browning with a few minutes under the grill.

    Variations

    Make it gluten free: Use gluten-free flour, pasta and bread crumbs.
