Beef and pasta bake

This low cost, quick and easy, tasty pasta bake recipe, is a great idea for lunch or dinner. It’s low in sodium and high in iron which makes it a healthy family meal option.

  • 500g penne pasta
    • ½ teaspoon olive oil
    • 1 onion, finely chopped
    • 600g premium beef mince
    • 737g bottle tomato pasta sauce with garlic and onion
    • 100g parmesan, finely grated

    1 Preheat oven to 200°C. Cook pasta following packet directions. Drain. Return to pan and set aside.

    2 Brush a large, non-stick frying pan with oil and heat over a medium heat. Add onion. Cook, stirring, for 3 minutes, or until soft. Add mince and cook, stirring with a wooden spoon, until browned. Add pasta sauce and stir until well combined. Bring to the boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 2 minutes. Remove from heat.

    3 Stir meat sauce into pasta. Pour into a large, shallow, ovenproof dish. Sprinkle parmesan on top. Bake for 15 minutes, or until cheese is golden. Serve with a salad.
